Life on the Back Forty:
cutting hay, harrowing the arena, hanging out with the animals..
scroll down and see for yourself!
The Back Forty was inspired by the 40 acre property outside of Strathmore, Alberta that my family and I call home.
Every year, we cut the back field so our horses, donkey, goats, chickens, pony, rabbits, and guinea pigs stay fed through the cold months and have plenty of bedding.
Whenever we head outside, we call it “Going out back” and that part of my life is what inspires the name behind my designs.

Ruben & Sveinn
June 2022
Every photo across this site was taken by me, right here in Alberta.
Lord Byron, the miniature donkey, with his goats Ruben, Sveinn and Mr. Nibbles.
Here at The Back Forty, there’s always something happening, whether it’s fixing fences, building pens, or dealing with the occasional escapee (I’m looking at you, goats.)

Cutting Hay & Kicking Out Bales
Every year we start by cutting the bottom five acres to test out the machinery before moving on to the main field and the ditches along Hwy 1.
If you’re driving on Hwy 1 next season and spot us baling, give us a wave!
